If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.I have successfully upgraded to XP Service Pack 3. It took me about 50 minutes to upgrade, including the downloading of the service pack and the rebooting required. So far, I have had no ill effects from the upgrade.

Windows Sysinternals Is a Useful Collection of Utilities

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I came across this handy Microsoft [shock, horror!] utilities website recently and thought it was very handy indeed.

There are many handy tools available from checking your internal system clock, monitoring DLL files in real-time [that has been at the top of my list of things to monitor, sort of, well ok not really, but I [...]

Windows XP Is Pants Say PC Tools

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

PC Tools recently conducted a security study of Microsoft’s operating systems and has admitted that XP is less secure than Vista [WTF!] and is even less secure than Windows 2000 [double WTF!].
The link for the findings is here. What amazes me is that XP is less secure than Windows 2000 when XP is supposed to [...]

How widespread is Spam? According to Vnunet: “Spam email accounted for 96.63% of all email scanned in March 2008, making it the third consecutive month that junk mail levels have remained steady.”
SPAM laws were passed in the USA and UK in 2003, and so far have failed to stop the flow of SPAM messages to [...]

We’re nearly at the end of April 2008, and some utterly unconnected reason I’d like to highlight how two separate companies who deal with Malware infections, class the top 10 Malware threats for March 2008.
In one corner we have Sophos, who have been around for a while and produce many computer security products. In the [...]

Trojan Horse - Greek Myth or Computer Scare Story?

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

You may have heard of the term Trojan or Trojan Horse [for this blog, I'll call it a Trojan]. You may wonder what exactly a Trojan is, and what does it do once it has invaded your computer?
Well, a Trojan is a nasty and destructive program that impersonates itself as a safe application. Unlike a virus, [...]

It’s Like a Real-Time Bouncer for Your Computer

Friday, March 28th, 2008

I recently came across a great little program that sits in the background, using little resources, monitoring what programs are running on your computer. You are given a lot of information about what is running on your computer and enables you to manage your start-ups, cookies, services and tasks quickly and easily.
Scotty [the icon for [...]

It’s Amazing What You Find When You Actually Use Your Anti-Virus Program

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I use AVG Anti-Virus, there I said it. It works for me. You may disagree, but I’ve used it on and off for over 2 years now. I couldn’t quite get used to Avast and Anti-Vir doesn’t have email scanning, which I find very useful with AVG. Nothing against Avast or Anti-Vir, as they are [...]
