Roll Up, Roll Up - Get Your Free Portable Software Here

Do you use portable software? If not, why not? Portable software, or “portable apps” to the geeks and techno-heads [yes, like me], is a computer program that you can carry around with you on a portable device and use on any Windows computer.

When your USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod or other portable device is plugged in to your computer, you have access to your software and personal data just as you would on your own PC. And when you unplug the device, none of your personal data is left behind.

No Special Hardware is necessary, you can use any USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod/MP3 player. No Additional Software is required. You just download the portable app, run the portable installer and go.

Portable programs are handy in that they don’t need any installation on the computer you are using. The program runs of the portable storage device you are using. The settings can be saved on the storage device and not on the computer. 99% of all portable apps do not leave any trace on the computer that you use it on.

I use the portable version of Winamp at work. Like most employers, they have restrictions on installing programs and I just don’t like Windows Media Player. So I downloaded portable Winamp on my USB mp3 player, stick my mp3 player into computer’s USB port, fire up portable Winamp and Bob’s your uncle [I do actually have an uncle Bob].

The website that contains all these goodies is http://portableapps.com/.

Visit the website and see what they have. It’s all free by the way and the range of programs that’s available is quite huge. Go on, you know you want to.
