I haven’t contacted Virgin Media about my broadband account yet, as they seemed to have changed their minds about Phorm.
Top technology website The Register states that Virgin Media Distances itself from Phorm. They quote “Virgin Media today sought to publicly clarify its relationship with Phorm, amid concerns that spin from the controversial ISP adware company has worried many of its customers.”. The full article is here.
A key part of the statement from Virgin Media’s website now says: “It may be that, as part of the evaluation process, we want to test the technology among some of our customers but we are not currently doing so and we will not conduct any such tests without individual customers’ prior consent. Moreover, should Virgin Media eventually decide to roll out Webwise, customers will not be forced to use the system.” The full statement is available from here.
I will have to wait and see how Virgin Media plans to take Phorm further. If they do, I expect an opt-out option, otherwise I will leave them, along with thousands of other customers as well.
