Where Does the Traffic Come From?
By John F | September 12, 2008
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.
This week my blog has had a 324% increase in traffic. When I checked my Google stats and my hosting stats I had to look twice. That kind of traffic increase is mind-blowing, especially when my hit counters have been steady, if not spectacular.
Without divulging any trade secrets [yeah as if!] of where the increase in traffic has come from, lets just say that it seems some articles I have written have been picked up by somebody out there in Internet-land and the click through link has directed them towards my site.
Now, some people would say, “John, you have wasted all that traffic by not having an auto-responder to capture email address or monetizing your site. You are a fool.” My response is that I never set up this site to solely make money. I set up this site so I could learn how to set up a blog, write about something I enjoy and am passionate about.
It’s true that early on, I had a lot more material to write about and these days I’ll post something once, twice or maybe three times a week. I aim to post worthwhile decent posts, not re-hashed content or rubbish.
I have a full time job as well, and to me this is a hobby that I enjoy. It costs money to pay for the hosting and the domain name. I could put up some Google Adsense to help pay for that, but I don’t like to defame my site with blatant adverts.
I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that concept. There are a lot of people out there who make excellent livings doing just that with their websites and blogs. Good luck to them.
I have had some good feedback from visitors since I set up this blog in March 2008. I do have some plans for my blog, and shortly will be releasing some free ‘how to’ guides that will help and advise people with computer basics and beyond. I haven’t used video as yet, although I am thinking about it.
If you have any comments, suggestions or feedback as to what you u would like to see here on the blog, please leave a comment or use the contact me page to send me a message. Many thanks, John.
